Kebbi Governor Queries Military Over Insecurity, Questions Withdrawal of Troops Before Schoolgirls’ Abduction

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has urged the military to revamp its strategy in tackling insecurity, citing concerns over the recent abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, Maga. The governor made this call while receiving Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, at the Government House in Birnin-Kebbi.

Governor Idris questioned the withdrawal of military personnel from the school minutes before the attack, asking, “How can over 500 bandits be moving on bikes on our highways without being checked?” He emphasized that the state government has fulfilled its obligations to security agencies, providing them with logistics, including over 100 vehicles, but lamented that the security architecture is not yielding desired results.

The governor has called for a thorough investigation into the withdrawal of military personnel, suggesting possible sabotage. He also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to review Nigeria’s security architecture, stressing that enemies are working to undermine the country’s democracy.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, condemned the abduction and killing of school staff, donating ₦30 million to the affected families. He pledged the House’s support in addressing the insecurity issue.
